Ocarina
Sound of a soul
The instrument has a magical soft, soothing and slightly hissing sound, although a cool tint prevails in the timbre color. Could be easily used as solo or mixed with other instruments in numbers of different music genres.
Original instrument
The ocarina is a small, handheld wind instrument that has been used for centuries in many cultures around the world. It is typically made of clay or ceramic, but can also be made of other materials such as plastic or metal.
The ocarina has a unique shape, with a rounded body and finger holes on the top. It is played by blowing air into a mouthpiece at the top of the instrument and covering and uncovering the finger holes to change the pitch of the sound.
One of the most well-known ocarinas is the "sweet potato" or "transverse" ocarina, which is shaped like a sweet potato and has a horizontal mouthpiece. Another popular type is the "inline" or "English pendant" ocarina, which has a vertical mouthpiece and is shaped like a teardrop.
The ocarina can produce a wide range of notes, and is often used to play melodies in a variety of genres, including folk, classical, and video game music. In fact, the ocarina is featured prominently in the music of the popular video game "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time."
New dimension of a sound
Sampled instruments are considered to be just a soulless imitation of the live ones. But what if we take a look from another point of view?
Let’s take a handmade instrument, great musician to get all possible sounds from long notes to imitation of the voice of an owl, record this through an analogue circuit to convey the character and warmth of the sound. Then using audio processing tools expand the range from one octave diatonic to three octaves chromatic and carefully select a unique set of effects that, in combination with the raw sound of the instrument, open up completely new abilities and unlimited space for creation.
Our goal is not just create another sample library, our goal is to open up a new dimension for instruments, put our soul into and bring it to you.
Virtual instrument
- We captured the sound of the ocarina by recording each note with high-quality and attention to the sound.
- The samples were recorded with p, mf, and f dynamics. With the Dynamic knob, you can smoothly control the change in dynamics, just like a live performer.
- You have 8 articulations for your creativity: Sustain, Vibrato 1 (narrow), Vibrato 2 (wide), Frolato, Staccato, Glissando 1 and Glissando 2, and FX articulation, in which the performer recreates the sounds of birds, animals, etc.
- Additionally, two synthesised created articulations, Glissando 1 (short) and Glissando 2 (long), offer even more creative possibilities.
- Each articulation gives you the opportunity to use the ocarina as a polyphonic instrument by playing intervals and chords.
- With the extended range, you now have 3 chromatic octaves, and if you need more, the Octave knob will further extend the range to 5 octaves.
- Close and room microphones, as well as carefully selected spatial effects, give you more control over your sound.
- A unique set of effects perfectly matches the tone of your instrument, allowing you to create a unique, unrepeatable sound for your style.
